Biography

Leaf Arbuthnot is a novelist, arts critic, and assistant editor of The Week. Educated at Cambridge, where she studied French and Italian literature, and later on a fellowship at Yale,
she went on to work as a journalist and critic. Previously a leader writer at The Times, her reviews and features have appeared in Vogue, The Guardian, The Spectator, and The Sunday Times, and she has interviewed subjects ranging from Hilary Mantel to Jilly Cooper. She judged the Forward Prize for Poetry in 2020. Her debut novel, Looking for Eliza, was published by
Orion in 2020 and went on to find success in international translation. Her second and upcoming novel with Zeytin Press, Young Love, is tender and acutely observed as it explores the precariousness of friendship when it hovers on the cusp of first love. Her work experientially explores the social questions of class, relationships, and family with clarity and style. For readers of Naoise Dolan, Megan Nolan, and Caleb Azumah Nelson.
